It's no surprise that a trip to Madrid with Hanning involved a tour of the local football stadium. We stood in line to buy our tickets, and waited a good 15-20 tickets behind a Spanish family who fought tooth and nail to save €7. Hanning noticed the big Elmo character pointing people in another direction so he followed them, and lo and behold, we were lining up for the wrong thing. Ha ha. 3000 steps with a pram later, we finally got an excellent view of the stadium.
The tour was pretty impressive. The heritage of this team and national pride for football shone brightly. And I don't think it was, honestly, the multi million dollars that went into the trophy room, information centres, museum and other features. The content was rich. I have adopted them as my football team now, and once a year I promise to check the ladder and cry or cheer accordingly.
This was one of my favourite displays. It featured all the different players and showcased their game highlights and goals, and therefore a great deal of front flips and acrobatics too.
This boy was potentially one of the tour highlights. He was running around and falling over. He crashed to the ground right beside Elaine, who genuinely fell for it and thought he had hurt himself. He was actually just being Renaldo. Here he is, at the press conference table.
Gareth Bale was there for a meet and greet. He is one of the legends at this point in time, so I was pretty nervous getting this picture taken, but I wanted to do it for Matisse. However, everyone was taunting me that I was a WAG so I didn't want to get too close in this pic, and now it looks totally awkward. At least I don't look like a hussy cracking onto a footballer, in front of my husband.
The best bit about the whole day was that Steven somehow ended up lugging the pram around the stadium, all 3000+ stairs. I'm fact, I don't think it has ever seen so many stairs and manhandling in a single day. All the while. Elaine carried Matisse, and Karl and I roamed around like free agents. I'm pretty sure Steven hadn't envisaged that detail when fantasising about his stadium tour... Sorry mate.
