An apartment in Barcelona

I booked our apartment in Barcelona on Airbnb.com. I chose this place with two terraces, and 360 degree views of the city. I reasoned that if we are skipping the nightlife, we can absorb the ambience from the roof whilst Matisse sleeps. Win win.

So, we arrive in Barcelona having not slept for the best part of 36 hours. "Travelling light" with a baby still amounts to two backpacks, a nappy bag, pram and a baby. So we are loaded up with this... And you don't get a rooftop apartment in the gothic quarter without stepping back to time before there were lifts. That's right. Specifically, 96 of the most uneven, wonky, slippery stairs you could conceive of. Everytimewecome and go, and with a baby, pram, nappy bag and anything else coming or going. If I leave here without rebreaking my ribs it will be a small miracle.

We we met out host Antonine at the top. We were just huffing at him for the first five minutes. It was ridiculous. So there was that.... And then there was this. What was a perfectly feasible loungeroom three months ago, is now a nightmare on steroids with Matisse. We did some rearranging, Antoine is going to love what we have done with the place....

I must say, in the arrival fatigue, the rooftop terraces didn't justify the climb. However, the magic was evident the next morning. The 12 degrees plus wind chill factor really made it breathtaking.

La Catedral is next door. They had a little Spanish concert on Friday night. This was sound check from our balcony. Below is the sound of the bells. Beautiful. This was 9pm, dusk last night....

It's a beautiful spot, but the climb is not for the faint hearted, and it's actually not suitable at all for a child! Ha ha ha....
